Elif Akşit is a professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and Women's Studies Departments at Ankara University (http://cins.ankara.edu.tr/aksit.html). Her research areas include girls’ education, history of the environment, Islamic space. She is the founder and current editor of the journal of the Women's Studies Center of Ankara University called Fe Journal (https://cins.ankara.edu.tr/cv.html). Women's memoirs have provided an indispensable source of information and perspective in her pursuit of matters pertaining to girls’ public and private education.  She is very happy to be a part of a collective project that tackles the issues of acknowledgment and controversy over female writers as well as their exclusion.
